The professional position of Hua Wang, involved being a food carving expert in many large hotels in China. The Hua Wang’s job was solely focused on carving food and they earned a salary comparable to that of a chief chef. The goal of this project is to showcase the charm of Chinese food plating design from the 1980s and 1990s through the creation of a plating event and accompanying book. The event will invite participants to create their own food art and the book will feature photos of their works, as well as provide information on the history of Chinese food plating culture. The ultimate aim is to enhance understanding and appreciation of this aspect of Chinese diet culture, and to explore the cultural identity in the context of globalization.

The book records interviews and evaluations of the competition as well as works by participating artists. I tried to present the visual system in a both retro and novel way. The player interview page references the material of an old-style carbon paper tri-fold menu to add interest to the book.
